The broth­er­hood present in the Cal Delt chap­ter of Phi Delta Theta is unpar­al­leled, mostly as a result of the numer­ous broth­er­hood events planned every semes­ter.  One of the eas­i­est ways to build the broth­er­hood felt between each mem­ber of Phi Delta Theta is to spend time together par­tic­i­pat­ing in a vari­ety of activ­i­ties to cre­ate shared expe­ri­ences.  As such, the broth­er­hood com­mit­tee ded­i­cates hours of time and effort to plan and exe­cute broth­er­hood events each week.

Prob­a­bly our most mem­o­rable new event from the past school year was our bus trip to the USC-ASU game in Phoenix.  The chance to travel into enemy ter­ri­tory with your broth­ers by your side and cheer for the Tro­jans all while hav­ing each other’s backs when rival fans would try to start trou­ble cre­ated instant mem­o­ries.  Some had been look­ing for­ward to the trip for the entire week lead­ing into it.  For oth­ers, the trip became a real­ity only when the more zeal­ous broth­ers dragged them out of bed and onto the bus.  How­ever, regard­less of how each brother found him­self in the sun-devil’s den show­ing intense school spirit, each had a time worth writ­ing home about, and the broth­er­hood flourished.

Another event from the past that stands out was a trip out to the ocean for a day of deep-sea fish­ing.  Relax­ing with your broth­ers while enjoy­ing a beau­ti­ful day of fish­ing and good con­ver­sa­tion is par­adise, and each per­son there knew they were lucky to have such great com­pany to fish with. Every per­son there had a chance to get to know their broth­ers on a much deeper level, as that is sim­ply the nature of a day out fish­ing. Despite the early morn­ing awak­en­ing and occa­sional bout of sea­sick­ness, the over­all con­sen­sus was extremely positive.

Two other exam­ples of brotherhood-building activ­i­ties are much sim­pler than the first two: BBQ days and beach vol­ley­ball days.  Both of these have become tra­di­tion at our chap­ter of Phi Delt, and help to keep the broth­er­hood alive on a reg­u­lar basis.  Com­ing together to grill and enjoy the com­pany of fel­low broth­ers dur­ing a lazy after­noon is really at the core of what Phi Delt broth­er­hood tries to be.  Trips to the beach for some vol­ley­ball action began organ­i­cally and have been a semi-consistent tra­di­tion ever since.  They are all about com­ing together to enjoy friendly com­pe­ti­tion on the beach and build broth­er­hood through the power of sport, another sta­ple of fra­ter­ni­ties every­where, but Phi Delt in particular.
