“The men of Phi Delta Theta place a high emphasis on scholarship within their chapter that extends from the pledge process through graduation. Mandatory study hours, time management seminars, and 24-hour quiet hours are only a few of the many policies that they have enforced to help improve their chapter’s academics. In the spring of 2012, Phi Delta Theta’s earned one of the highest average GPAs among fraternities on the row, a 3.29.”

In addition, we would like to congratulate our past President, Daniel Moline, on winning the Chapter President’s Leadership and Vision Award. This award is given to one fraternity and one sorority President each year and since there are 24 fraternities at USC, it is a great honor. It was said that:

“When Daniel Moline served as Phi Delta Theta’s 2012 president, he significantly helped
the chapter revamp its organizational structure and cultivate a culture where all the
brothers could progress fully and improve the chapter. He successfully ran the fraternity
like a business, employing marketing principles and organizational management. In doing
so, he helped develop young leaders and saw them grow as men throughout the year of
2012. Graduating at the end of this semester, Daniel states that he would never trade the
experiences he had and the lessons he learned for anything.”

California Delta also took home the Robert L. Mannes Award for Community Service. This award goes to the chapters who have excelled in bringing their members into the university and community in diverse and innovative ways, emphasizing the roots of commitment and service. It was said that:

“The brothers of Phi Delta Theta have also taken great pride in their hands-on philanthropic efforts in the year 2012. For their annual philanthropy Phi Delt FIFA, the brothers of Phi Delt raised over $5000 to donate to the ALS association in addition to participating in their annual Walk to Defeat ALS at the Exposition Park. Phi Delta Theta brothers also participated in community service outside of their fraternity such as the Trojan Dance Marathon, Belmont Prom, Troy Camp as well as a summer Guatemala trip with Volunteers Around the World.”

California Delta also took home Runner up for Excellence in Alumni Relations as well as Runner up for Excellence in Risk Management.

Phase 3 of the volleyball court, filling it with sand and putting all the finishing touches on, will take place the week before we all get back from summer vacation. Jordan ran the Inaugural Hollywood Half-Marathon on April 7th, 2011.  The event started at Universal Studios in Hollywood and there were a total of 6,115 racers at the event.  He raised a total of $1,050 dollars upon completion of the event! Jordan started preparing for the race when he was talking to another brother, Kevin Fohrer, about running a half-marathon in January.  Kevin ended up hurting his knee on their first run together, so he was mostly on my own for the rest of the race preparation. However, his motivation never faltered. He ran anywhere from one time a week to five times a week. This was something he wishes he could go back and redo as Jordan felt that a more rigorous and scheduled training regimen would have helped him a bit more.

Jordan used to run in high school though so he was used to doing some running on little training. Jordan says that he “felt a little under prepared going into the event, super exhausted during it, and absolutely elated after reaching the finish line.” When asked why he wanted to become an Iron Phi he answered that he has “always been a strong proponent of volunteer work and community service activities, so when [he] learned about the Iron Phi organization, [he] really wanted to be able to say that [he] contributed to an organization like that.  [He] wanted to get in a little better shape, so the race motivation also came easy.” When asked how it felt to be the chapter’s first Iron Phi since refounding he stated that “it was also pretty motivating to be able to say that I was our chapter’s first Iron Phi, though I hope that I can inspire other brothers so we can all take the initiative and also participate in similar events in the future.” All the brothers at California Delta commend Jordan on his great feat. We are proud to call him our brother.
