Philanthropy: A Corner Stone of Cal Delt
Most of the members of California Delta come from a history of community service. Our chapter reflects this with our numerous activities and involvements with philanthropy and community service. Outside of the already significant number of commitments that we have with philanthropy, a number of our members go out of their way to engage in other philanthropic opportunities. We have members on planning committees for Trojan Dance Marathon, Global Medical Brigades, and Troy camp, among others. Philanthropy offers a tremendous opportunity for the members of our chapter. Spending a day with your brothers working at a food bank, or any other sort of service is a fantastic way to get to know one another. Placing an emphasis on community service allows our members to develop in a more well-rounded nature throughout their college career.
Phi Delt FIFA is California Delta’s annual philanthropy benefiting the ALS Association. Each year, members of the chapter, and particularly within the philanthropy committee, contribute hundreds of hours to putting on a big soccer tournament on McCallister field. The tournament pits members from each Panhellenic Sorority in a day long tournament. The members of our chapter split up into groups to ‘captain’ sororities in the event. The event features a DJ, numerous sponsors, and participation from hundreds of people within the USC community. Last year, the chapter used the success and different aspects of the event to raise and donate over $3,000 dollars to the ALS Association.
We annually devote an entire day, as a chapter, to assisting with the Los Angeles County Walk to Defeat ALS held the past two years in Pasadena and Santa Monica, respectively. Each spring, we pair up with Delta Gamma to put on a Prom at the Belmont Village in Hollywood. In addition, we are actively involved in a number of other events, including making sandwiches for Troy Camp, painting Easter eggs with sororities, and participation in various LA charities, such as the LA food bank.
